Hallo zusammen,
How about we organize a conference call for a mutual update &
discussion? Interested?
I was at first hesitant to put the idea on this list, because if even
only 50% of the current approx. 36 subscribers (!) to this list
participate in such a call, it's probably going to be chaotic... but
then I thought in the interest of openness, it should be announced
here. I'm assuming (??) that only a much smaller core group will
actually really call in to participate, and we'd send an update to all
list subscribers of the call afterwards. Let me try like this, I
realize it's may more difficult than I think, but hey, we'll know
better after we tried! ;-) So:
* Suggested Date & Time & Duration: Next Wednesday March 26th, 19
o'clock (Swiss time, doh!), max. 1h. If you can not make that and very
strongly really would love to be in the call, please suggest an
alternate Date & Time by responding to this email, to the mailing
list.
* Discussion can be held in Swiss German unless there are any
non-German participants in the call (to be determined at the start of
call by simply asking around)
* Looking for a volunteer who is willing to play "scribe" and take
notes and send a summary to the list after the call
* Schlage Michele als "Moderator" vor.. isch gued? Scribe not
necessarily same as moderator, probably better not. Who's volunteering
as scribe??
* Themenvorschläge meinerseits, please feel free to add more
suggestions when responding (see below): 1) Gegenseitiges Updaten, 2)
OLPC.ch goals "refinement", 3) Next specific Steps, Priorities?
* Infrastructure, how to: Hm... ;-) Let me suggest a Skype "public
chat". I have never actually tried this, but it seems pretty
straightforward - looks like just clicking on e.g.
http://ui.skype.com/ui/0/3.0.0.198/en/publicchats-join?skypename=mike_vorburger&topic=OLPC.ch&blob=5KNudxEsbQp0p5UOeb7cFm0iUzawWJ15ar4SvSPibDtpegrm275jclai_dfNr4hmQ9HPPAL5JtXpng
on the agreed date and time (does this link stay valid until then?)
should get us together. -- Now, I realize there may be people who will
not like Skype... can I suggest: People who will not be able to be in
the call and just want to comment in general about Skype or FOSS etc.,
please abstain; sorry & thanks. People who genuinely want to be in the
call and honestly have a problem with Skype (including being
completely against installing the Linux version that Skype offers,
even just for this call?), please speak up by responding to this
email. If you know of an equally easy alternative, please suggest it.
We will however not "experiment" with technology, within the scope of
a conf. call, you'll know what I mean. A possible fallback could be a
traditional POTS (normal phone) conference call number. If anybody
raises concerns against Skype and can not propose a viable simple
alternative, I volunteer to look into setting up such a number (via my
day job office probably). The number of possible attendees may be more
limited than with Skype in that case.
Please respond to this email to the list (not just to me; just do a
Reply which should automatically go to the list) with a brief "I'll
probably participate" so that we get a feeling for the number of
participants (and language).
Please keep your email open on the agreed date and time, just in case
we need to send a new link or number or something.
I'm curious if and how this will work out...
Regards,
Michael
