I've had this application recommended to me: http://calibre-ebook.com/

Calibre is Free Software (GPLv3), and can manage, view and convert
e-books. It is not Sugarised, but it might be of use in GNOME or for
teachers to convert documents into e-books readable on the XO.

The site also has a repository of DRM-free e-books
