The principal problem is that from that time on, the 'Modify' panel gets
displayed with white text on a light-gray background __BEHIND__ the
non-highlighted lines in the about:config screen.  Result -- the
'Modify' panel can't be seen, and thus is unusable.

The secondary problem (read-only) can be corrected if need be by issuing
as root 'chmod go+w /usr/share/hulahop/prefs.js'.

I suppose one can manually extract as root the appropriate lines from
the mozilla prefs.js, and insert them into the hulahop prefs.js
