Dear Sugar Labs / OLPC localizers,
With the migration to Pootle version 2.0, there are now substantially
improved quality control tools available to language administrators (or
anyone with 'review" privs on a given language). By selecting the Review
tab when one is viewing a project, there is a very nice interface to all of
the message format sanity checks that can be run using the Translate Toolkit
with links to take you directly to the strings that are flagged by the
system. Not everything flagged by msgfmt is important and not everything
flagged is really wrong, but this system offers a very convenient way to
zero in on things that *might* be problems. These msgfmt sanity checks do
not substitute for a human's judgement and review of the UI strings in their
entirety, but they do make it easy to find some things that could easily be
missed (whitespace inconsistencies, etc.).
I would encourage anyone with review priv (especially language
administrators) to log onto the new Pootle instance and begin familiarizing
yourself with these new administrative tools/features. According to the
SugarLabs release schedule we have a string freeze coming up on March 1st,
so it would be best if each team had gotten themselves oriented on the new
look-n-feel of the language admin interface options before that time.
If there are questions on the use of the newer features in Pootle, this list
is as good a place as any to post them.
