I added more detailed information - let me know if you need anything
else in there.

I'll try to come up with a document on this. The problem is that
changing keyboard layouts on a permanent basis requires modification
of the manufacturing data. Do you want me to come up with the process
for a permanent change, or do you want the process for a temporary
change ?

Yes. When we flash a non English XO, we have scripts (part of
olpc-utils) which deduce the keyboard layout from the manufacturing
data, and then write the relevant configuration file during first
boot.

Looks OK to me (just a note: testing Amharic keyboard will require
testing of Compose sequences as well, around 300 of them).

Ideally, the language should be changed, and then the one hour smoke
test should be run with the new language being active. Plus the
keyboard layout should be tested. If the one hour smoke test is not
viable, at least as a bare minimum,
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/1_hour_smoke_test#Try_out_a_few_Activities
should be run. This is because we have a history of activities not
starting up/crashing due to problems in translations.
