While I have yet to receive my G1G1 XO, I can certainly provide help 
with the Pootle web interface (although there are many others on this 
list who can do so as well).  Although I have no Kreyol ability, I do 
have decent written French, and knowledge of the localization 
technology, so could provide answers for any questions apropos of that.

I'd recommend that he start by creating an account on Pootle, following 
the excellent slides by Sameer Verma that include screenshots 
demonstrating the process (http://opensource.sfsu.edu/node/452).

An issue that would keep Jude from being able to start working on the 
translation is that Pootle does not yet have Kreyol (Creole, Ayisyen) as 
one of the target languages, but hopefully Sayamindu can get that set up 
shortly.

Once that is done, working on the Terminology project is probably the 
best place to get started; this is used internally by Pootle to provide 
suggestions for translating strings in other projects, and has a fair 
number of OLPC-specific terminology that Jude might want to start 
thinking about (e.g. Mesh network).  Reviewing the French translation 
for this might not be a bad way to begin, since the terms may well be 
similar in many cases.  You can see the French translation of the
