No, the OpenFirmware test output is not logged in the field.  It can be
captured by a serial adapter.

The olpc-runin-tests are available for XO-1.5 and later, and with version
0.11.3 can be run in a five minute mode (touch /runin/quick), but the
test is designed to stress the system and would cost much power and
degrade performance if it were used in background.

You might instead measure what hardware bugs are detected in the laptop
population and consider specific tests for these.
