This bug should be fixed in the latest build, which you can find here:

Build os179py is what we've deployed. os180py has a tiny change to
support GSM modems.

Sorry, due to lack of time I neglected to write release notes and
announce these builds on the devel list.

It's actually officially supported by Paraguay Educa and includes work
officially supported by OLPC, Fedora and Sugar Labs :-)
