"Sensor mode" documentation

Hi!

Can anyone point me to some documentation about the various "sensor 
modes" of the XO-1 microphone input, please?
I'm trying to figure out why Measure sets the volume to different values 
for left/right channel. According to the hardware specs it should be a 
mono input anyway...
Already tried wiki.laptop.org and the hardware specs 
(CL1_Hdwe_Design_Spec.pdf), but what I found was rather sparse. E.g. the 
specs talk about programmable input gain of 0/10/20/30dB, but alsamixer 
only shows a 20dB switch...
