build an image ".tar.gz"of the 80211s kernel

Hi,
I'm trying to build an image of a 80211s kernel installed on ubuntu 8.10 machine with an extension ".tar.gz". This is because I had to install it into an XO (base Fedora 7).
I wonder if anyone can help me and give me the different steps to create an image ".tar.gz" of my kernel which can be installed later on the XO.
