minimal suspend/resume for Update.1

SUMMARY: A minimal version of "suspend on lid close"
should be included in the Update.1 release. The purpose
would be to provide an "instant on" alternative to shutting
down the the XO and then booting up again. The benefits
would be:
(1) an easy way to extend battery life without powering
down the system,
(2) the "instant-on / instant-off" functionality would allow
users to avoid shutdown and booting up as the only
options to extend battery life,
(3) it maintains consistency between early information,
that power management would be in Update.1, and the
actual released functionality (e.g. the care and feeding
of the G1G1 tiger)
DOWNSIDE: As a G1G1 user and an XO developer in
training (still coming up the software/OS/UI learning curves),
this seems like a feature that could be done for Update.1,
would look like the real thing (as compared to the ultimate
full implementation down the Road map in Update.2).
Possible problems with this proposal:
(1) There may be *no* reasonable implementation
(2) Having a "hacked in" suspend on lid close feature
might cause more problems with expectations and
consistency down the road (don't want all the G1G1's
all riled up!)
(3) There could be conflicts between this "feature"
and the usage and usability of the XO in its intended
market/audience
