Build 287 under qemu: Struck in sugar initial screen

Hi all,

I am trying OLPC software under emulation, using qemu-0.9.0 with kqemu under 
Ubuntu (kubuntu 6.10). Using redhat supplied images of build 275 and 287.

With both I get to the initial sugar screen, with "My Picture", "My Name" 
and "My Color" tuple. But I can't get past this welcome, no matter what I 
try. The little forward sign below changes the backgroud when the pointer is 
over, and seems to react to my clicks. 

Please note that my emulation seems to work fine: I can type in my name, 
change color with a click, and browse for a picture file in the 287 build (so 
kbd and mouse seems to work, even double-click).

Am I missing some step?
I saw a fix labeled "not able to log in in qemu build" in a recent email, 
which prompted me to download that version, but no luck so far.

I tried to search for this error in the wiki and related pages, so if this 
ends being a really basic question, please don't hit me that hard. :-)
