Why does yum quit randomly?

No OOMs or anything like that, but yum will randomly drop you back to
the prompt during the install process with no errors or warnings.  This
necessitates re-running yum (a very slow process) multiple times, with
no guarantees.  This usually seems to happen after it installs one or
two dependency packages in the "Running Transaction" phase.

This happens on both my XO and qemu, with varying builds.

Yum slowness I can deal with, but random crashes I cannot.
