OLPC System Software Teleconference Minutes
2007-01-02

Attending: Chris, Andres, Richard (moderator), Jim, Lilian, Mitch (scribe),
Jordan, Ted, Jack, Marcelo

== Status ==

=== Touchpad ===

* Seems to work now.
* Default scaling not yet adjusted.
* Do we want to add tap support?
* Post-B2, we may need an EC change to handle mode switches.
* AI: Jim: Work with Walter on touchpad decisions

=== boot2 for wireless ===

* 3106 boot code is supposed to fix problems with USB2 hubs.
  Marcelo tested it on both atest and dongle, but it hasn't
  been widely tested yet. There is still a remaining issue.

* The 3106 code will go into the 50-board pre-B2 build and
  will get tested on those boards.

* Mary Lou will bring some of those boards to Cambridge in
  mid-January.

* AI: Mitch: send USB analyzer to Richard and get a board modified

=== firmware for build ===

* Q2B14 has been released for preB2. It works with released
OS images, but has a problem (Page Fault) with one of Quanta's
custom kernels and with the bzImage firmware hack in the updater.
Mitch has a new updater script that avoids the updater problem.

* Battery charging issue - seen in three batteries with B-series
EC bits. If you run the battery way down, sometimes it won't recharge.
This has been seen with A62 firmware.

* Quanta has not been able to duplicate the problem, but will
try again today.

* AI: Richard to try A5x series of firmware to see if it will
bring up batteries from 0.

* AI: Richard to send a symptomatic battery to Quanta.

=== OS for build ===

* OS build 212 is pretty good - but it needs the new touchpad driver
and the X RandR stuff.

== Schedule ==

* Building 50 boards Jan 4 in Shanghai.

* CaFe ASIC is believed to work, both on Marvell test harness and
  to some extent under Linux

* Mary Lou returns about Jan 12 with some B2 boards, and more will be mailed

* There will also be some B1 systems with B2 boards installed

* Jan 18 SMT build for B2

* Jan 26/27 will be first B2 production run of ~300 B2 systems,
  then groups of ~600 at several day intervals until 2475 are built

* Gating item was touchpads, but that seems to have been resolved

* Today is the cutoff for new activities

* Later this week we need snapshots from developers of layered software
  for beginning integration

* Updates open until the 12th, turn over to Quanta the 14th.

* Final system image the 21st.

== Development priorities for BTest-2 ==

* AI: Mitch to get B2 schematics on team wiki (done; see
http://www.laptop.org/teamwiki/index.php/Tech:B-Test)

* AI: Jordan, Jim, et al, decide what to do about gamma for B3.
The issue is the video mode, compositing the YUV matrix and the OLPC
bit shift.

* Driver work: Touchpad tweaks, LED driver, test analog input for audio

* Scan codes on game key?

* Defer device tree integration to B3

== What performance data do we now have? ==

* cjb has done sysprof hack to get call counts

* tinderbox hacks to determine forks and stuff.

* AI: Mitch: upload the PCI spoofing patch

* AI: Jordan: find PM code for VSA

== Bug Triage ==

* Is the RandR code in the build? It is in Jordan's git tree,
  along with the PCI direct config access elimination.
  - It is not in 212 - reassign bug to J5

* Wireless firmware load failure. May be fixed but need hardware
  to test it.

* 413 scan codes for game keys. Patch for Andres.

* 498 Bad mfg data shipped on B1 unit. Mitch and Ted to work
together in Shanghai to test new program.

* 550 OS 212 does not yet have the Linux driver to handle the new touchpad.

* Spurious GS bits in new touchpad samples - fixed

* 557 Unable to switch from GS to PT when we have GS down - fixed, but
needs to be in the build (see 550)

* Wireless unreliable ... fixed in 212 (cjb says that 212 is really good
WRT wireless)

* Tablet scaling default needs adjustment.
