Comment:

Someone should make a website that scrapes http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/
on the fly. When a USB device is inserted, have the OLPC go to
 http://somesite/someurl?usbVendor=1234&usbProduct=4321

The site should either load from a database describing the support that
OLPC has for this device, or do a query to qbik.ch and create a skeleton
page that says something like, "While your device is not officially
suppported by the OLPC project, here is the relavent linux support info".

It would even be possible for developers feedback statistics to lead
future USB/OLPC device testing. Just have it check when site displays the
unsupported message above. If "bob's webcam" has 1000 users trying to use
it, we could prioritize making an installer module and testing for that
USB device and make it work very reliably on the OLPC.

Conversely, if they do insert a supported USB device, you could pop up a
page allowing "driver download" (with scripts to automatically get
everything working). This would allow a more modular distribution of OLPC
and further save on NAND storage.
