Tito,
I neglected to answer your question deliberately until our plans had
gelled better.
We are planning to build 500 developer boards (bare boards, without
display) over the summer and get them out to people, long before we hae
full up machines that come in cases, etc. These plans just got far
enough I'm willing to mention them publicly; even the logistics of
distribution and ECO'ing of such a number of prototype boards is
daunting, but it looks like Brightstar Corporation, one of our sponsors,
has both the expertise and the desire to help us out.
We'll also, once we are able to produce full up machines (displays,
cases, keyboards, our early production quality units) have some more
significant number available toward the end of the year.
We haven't yet figured out how we're going to allocate them. In fact,
if people have good ideas of how to make these decisions, it is
something Walter Bender and I have now started to worry about, and would
like input on. This might be a good topic of discussion on this list
right now.
In the meanwhile, you can use RedHat's emulator, or if you are
interested in single applications, it is often very convenient to use
Mathew Allum's "Xepher" X server to simulate the characteristics of the
display.
Regards,
- Jim
