More and more I'm leaning toward your battery having a bad cell in it.
But it still may be a charging code bug.

When I get the logs I'll have a better idea if thats the case. When the
capacity % took a big jump did the voltage take a big jump as well?
  Voltage is the 3rd column.

Doing it via Sugar I'm actually not sure since its not in the journal.

I always use the command line. I'll have to consult the sugar folk for
the official way of doing it 100% with sugar.

From the command line you use the 'cp' command. Sugar mounts USB
sticks in the /media/<number> where <number> is derived from the USB disk.

so you can stick a usb disk in the XO and after it shows up in the
journal open up a terminal and type 'ls /media' you should see a
directory with numbers. Thats the USB disk.

so 'cp /home/olpc/log-* /media/<number> will copy all the files that
start with 'log-' to the usb disk.

Then you can use the journal to unmount the disk.
