I don't think that's it. The Serial connector is identified on this page http://wiki.laptop.org/go/SPI_FLASH_Recovery It's location is listed as CN24, On my motherboard I can see the location CN24 (it's near the battery) where the adapter was now, there are just solder pads! So that will mean having to solder to the MB!
