The power into the XO is a pretty low tolerance 12Volts, and up to
about 3 amps if you're trynig to run and recharge simultaneously.

How you get that 12-or-so Volt, 3-or-so Amp supply is pretty
arbitrary. Mains with a down-converter, petrol powered generator
(automobile or standalone), solar cell, hand crany, etc. doesn't
really matter.
