for the record, does it matter how the SD card is formatted? 
there were suggestions to this effect on one of the forums -- i
think it was said that ext3 was vulnerable, but FAT was not.
but since i assume it's an interrupted write issue of some sort,
FAT might win simply because it's a less complex fs.
