[olpc-help] accumulating big files in .sugar/default/data

I have noticed that my G1G1 XO disk is filling up with large, bogus  
files in .sugar/default/data (see below).  The large, named pdfs are  
files that were in my journal at one time, but have been removed and  
don't show up in it any more (so I can't delete them via the  
journal).  Also several of them appear several times with serial  
numbers added.  The .xo file is no doubt some activity I have  
installed, but why are there 8 copies of it?  Disk space on the XO is  
too precious to have multimegabyte orphaned files hanging around!

So I have two questions, one theoretical and one practical: (1) Why  
am I getting multiple copies of these files and why are they left in  
the datastore even when they have been deleted from the journal? (2)  
How can I get rid of them?  (I suspect that if I use rm to remove  
them, it will mess up the journal database.)  If I can't remove them,  
can I recover the wasted space by copying empty files over them?   
FWIW, I'm running build 656.
