[olpc-help] Network adapter

I got a compact USB 10/100 network adapter (Linksys) to connect to an 
Ethernet line in a hotel room, rather than going to the lobby to go 
online wireless. I'm at home testing this, the cable from my cable modem 
brings me online on my lappie (hoo-ray!). However when I take a cable 
off the router, the adapter led 100 indicator lights up but the activity 
led remains off ( :-( ). The 10 indicator never lit up, which I presume 
is ok.

What am I missing?
