I seem to be having the same problem as others.
Here's all the details:
I just received by G1G1 XO on 12/17/2007 NC USA.
I have an 802.11b access point/router that works for my laptop.
I tried to connect the G1G1 but could not get past the password
screen.
Following are answers to questions listed in the wiki:
---
What overall info helps diagnose wireless problems?
1. Build/firmware:
OLPC build 650 (stream ship.2: variant devel_jffs2)
kernel 2.6.22-20071121.7.olpc.af3dd731d18bc39 on an i586
xo-0D-68-57
-bash-3.2# more /ofw/openprom/model
CL1 Q2D06 Q2D
-bash-3.2#
2 - Access Point/Router brand, model, version, and firmware
version (ideally). Linksys BEFW11s4 802.11b Access Point
Router.firmware 1.42.7 Apr 3 2002
3 - Security configuration (this is the case where if the user
changed the defaults, user should be able to go collect the info -
if they did not, one can discover what is the default, assuming we
know "2":
SSID changed;
Broadband SSID associate: temporarily set to "yes"
Channel 6
WEP mandatory
40 bit key (10 hex digits)
4 - The description of the problem from the user perspective. (see
above/below)
What wireless symptoms do users commonly report?
1 - I cannot associate to an Access Point from the mesh view. (The
symptom is usually a flashing circle icon where the rim of the
circle never turns whitethis indicates the XO is trying to
connect, but the connection fails.)
This may not be relevant--I don't belong to any known "mesh".
The real problem is trying to connect to my wireless access
point/router:
What questions help non-technical wireless users?
1 - Do you see the wifi Access Point in the mesh view?
YES.
2 - Have you previously successfully connected to this Access
Point from an XO?
NO
3 - Can you connect to the Access Point from another (non-xo)
laptop?
YES: two cases:
a. at the same time as attempting XO access
b. YES, but turn off laptop before attempting XO access
4 - Is the Access Point displayed as protected (lock), or as open
in the mesh view?
LOCK; solid yellow with brown border;
ssid displays in top black box; bottom box all black
5 - When you click on the Access Point circle does it:
prompts for a window with:
B: a menu for "Key type" and another for "AUTHENTICATION Type"
6 - In case you have a protected Access Point what happens after
you type in a passphase or a key?
a. for keytype, I select HEX (14/128 bit)
then type in my 10 hexdigit WEP key, e.g. 1ab23cd45f
(doesn't seem to matter whether I use upper or lower case
[I called CISCO (linksys)--they said "Linux must prefix the key
with $ char" but the XO does not accept the $.]
b. for Authentication type, select OPEN SYSTEM--which works for my
laptop--
(but get same result with SHARED KEY)
c. click OK
The window disappears, the Access Point's circle starts blinking
and after some time, the window is displayed again.
ON THE AP side: The XO's MAC address appears at the AP's active
MAC table.

So now what?
