Comment(by dsd):

 Disabling branch prediction (CONFIG_CPU_BPREDICT_DISABLE=y in the kernel)
 avoids these issues.

 Also see #12164 for another case where CONFIG_CPU_BPREDICT_DISABLE=y
 solves some misbehaviour on XO-4.
