 i think i'm reproducing it.

 i notice a lot of these, both in my logs, and the snippets quozl pasted
 above:

 hpet1: lost 1 rtc interrupts

 i notice that HPET_EMULATE_RTC is now set in our config, and it wasn't in
 the 2.6.35 kernels.  if this is set, we probably use a pretty different
 hardware mechanism for RTC interrupts.   the relationship between the
 hpet_rtc_xxx() routines and the rtc_cmos code seems somewhat incestuous,
 so i'm not even pretending to understand it right now.  but it's probably
 worth turning that option off.  i can try that, unless someone beats me to
 it.
