 Thanks for this! You are correct, the test during the initd is more
 appropriate if we are wondering about a race cond there.

 We don't have much evidence, AIUI. What we saw were errors in dmesg about
 the boot partition, and in some cases Bryan reported it was mounted (later
 or perhaps in a boot to sugar) as /media/boot or /media/bootpart.
