fail if /bootpart/runin is not present] feature committed.

An alternate theory is that uninitialised memory was used (#11762) by the
ext2 filesystem package on Open Firmware when the factory scripts tried to
copy the files to the boot partition. This may have resulted in the files
not being created properly, or corruption of filesystem metadata.

Is there any evidence available from the affected machines that might
support this theory? Such as an image copy of the boot partition, or a
 listing of /bootpart/runin directory?

#11762 did not reproduce in the same way on XO-1.75, but the same
underlying code is used. The fix for #11762 has not yet reached an
 XO-1.75 Open Firmware release.
