 I've got one of the motherboards hooked up to the scope, and what I see is
 constant switching of CPUSTP# and VDRSLP.   Eventually, VCORE goes from
 0.8 to 1.2V (VID seems to change at this time), followed by VCORE dropping
 to zero slightly later.

 The heat sink is properly connected --- the CPU is not running hot.
