 laptop last worked about 30-45 days ago when it was last used...now
 startup
 looks fine but all buttons besides power button are not functional. we

 owned the laptop for 2+ years but it is rarely used.

 i tried removing battery and power more than 2x - no change.

 Thanks David.  It seems likely to be the known problem caused by a
 firmware flaw, which can be fixed by following the detailed procedure at
 http://wiki.laptop.org/go/10597 ... please let us know how it goes.  The
 procedure assumes that the version of firmware installed is afflicted by
 the problem.  If you know you have different firmware, please let us know.

 In the meanwhile, an external USB keyboard and mouse may be used.
