 Attached is my first attempt.

 I noted that this behaviour is needed only for PDF adapter because the
 other ones, EPUB and text, do line wrapping.

 With my patch, the horizontal scroll is working.  But it doesn't stop on
 the right border of the page.  I'm trying to limit that.

 Yes, added this in the patch.

 > How the dpad is supposed to work when the screen is rotated is a good
 question as well, if we can detect the current rotation status.

 Tested in my XO 1.5 . The dpad buttons works as expected when the screen
 is rotated.
