 I have also seen this hang without Record running.  The machine is fine
 except the keyboard and mouse do not work.  I was just at the GNOME
 desktop, hit the rotate button and lost mouse and keyboard.  At a terminal
 I could control the display through xrandr and launch new windows fine.
