Comment(by Quozl):
Sridhar, the XO-1.5 OpenFirmware command:
{{{
test /camera
}}}
is expected to show a still image not mirrored for one second, followed by
a live image mirrored, not just a live image mirrored as you observed.
You can see the code in
[http://tracker.coreboot.org/trac/openfirmware/browser/dev/olpc/viacamera/camera.fth#L504
camera.fth]. The code makes a single bit change to a camera register;
there's no image processing. When you see both not mirrored followed by
mirrored in the test, this verifies that the camera can operate in both
modes.
The Linux kernel may make the same change, if requested by an application.
Neither Record, nor the GNOME applications do this, apparently.
Photo Booth on Mac OS X on a MacBook mirrors the image, but I cannot tell
if this is done by the camera, the kernel, or the application. I know of
no standard. If the same version of Cheese in GNOME shows a mirrored
image on the cameras of all other non-XO laptops and desktops, then I
guess we might want to change our default.
But this risks existing deployment documentation and practice, so I
wouldn't want to take such a decision lightly.
I'd like this ticket to remain the addition of a mirror control to Record
unless there is consensus on an alternative solution.
