 good plan.  selfishly, i'd prefer a flag file over an envvar, simply
 because it makes debugging and scripting easier in cases where you're not
 running in a child of olpc-session (e.g., from a VT, or serial console).
 i assume the the data represented by the envvar or file is a boolean:
 whether xrandr rotates backwards or not.

 good point.  this should probably be done as a new invocation argument to
 olpc-rotate ("olpc-rotate -r") in order to keep most of the communication
 with kbdshim in one place.
