Comment(by wad):

 There was a change to the audio codec circuitry between C1 (C-test) and C2
 (production) versions of XO-1.5.   A 10K resistor was added across C390 in
 order to fix the occasional loss of audio when a laptop is rebooted.

 I don't believe that this hardware difference would affect testing of this
 problem.  First, the loss of audio was present in both channels.  And
 second, OFW works properly (not present when audio was lost).

 This sounds like a software problem!
