Comment:

 to be fair, lid switch detection has been reliable for a long time
 (certainly in all 8.2-vintage builds), and this bug should have been
 closed a long time ago.  what's new is the ability to control which lid
 events cause wakeups (via /sys/power/wake-on-lid), and /sys/power/lid-
 state, which lets you query the state.  these were added to fix bugs
 #10398 and #10399.

 (i commented here simply because i implemented mitch's detection scheme,
 and it made sense to note that here.)

 i'm closing this now.
