 o.k. - I misunderstood.  I thought the talk was about a sugar-user-
 settable control, which the user himself might have increased already.
 Now, on re-reading this discussion, I see that it is about the non-sugar
 Capture amixer control (which is different from the user-settable Volume
 control).

 I retract my comment, with apologies.
