 It's not a solution.

 Sam, Simon, Martin, please consider a manual reset of mixer controls on
 boot, using ''amixer'' in ''olpc-configure'' or something similar.
 Especially raise ''Capture'' to 100%.  Argument follows.

 I don't know which activities change the mixer controls, if any.  Some
 older versions did.  I do know that changing the ''Capture'' control is
 saved by ''alsactl'' on shutdown and is restored on following boot.   If
 an activity manipulates a control but does not reset it before a
 controlled shutdown occurs, then the laptop may be reported as faulty.

 On XO-1.5, this is complicated by the absence of some controls (as
 displayed by ''amixer'') that later appear once the audio device is
 opened.

 I think it is more important for the learners that the laptops behave
 reproducibly than to preserve saved state of audio mixer, especially that
 part of the saved state that cannot be controlled by Sugar.  Restoring
 ''Capture'' would help with this.
