iirc, olpc-update-query currently pings back with the actual serial # of a
machine. I was discussing with Richard and Reuben how to more effectively
gather data in an automated day to aggregate info on OS#, power usage, and
 optional activity usage.

In order to make better use of this data for global analysis while
preserving user pseudonymity, it would be handy to have a one-way hash
that will produce the same hash for a given machine across reflashes but
can't be easily traced back to the machine ID.
