Comment:

 I plugged into a USB webcam on a 1.5, and the same symptom happens -- so
 the camera driver is exonerated.  :)  (The same pipeline, `gst-launch-0.10
 v4l2src ! theoraenc ! oggmux ! filesink location=/tmp/foo.ogv`, works on
 my desktop machine with that USB webcam.)

 Problem is, I don't know where to expect the problem to be next.  Why
 can't we handle recording video to a ramdisk in /tmp?
