Comment:

powerd currently suspends after 15 seconds, dims after 60 seconds, sleeps
after 4 minutes (all measured from last activity), and shuts the laptop
down after sleeping for 1 hour when on battery power.

reuben has suggested that the shutdown limit be increased to 4 hours, to
cover taking breaks during a day of laptop usage, but not attempting to
cover overnight non-use. (note that if the laptop is plugged in, powerd
won't shut it down while sleeping.)

wad seemed to think that the 4 minute sleep timer was too short. (he also
seems to like the Mac model where the screen dims after some proportion
(half?) the time until sleep will happen, but powerd doesn't have that
ability -- the timers must be set explicitly).

so: how long is it appropriate to be in idle-suspend before sleeping, if
4 minutes is too short? and at what point should the screen dim?
