Comment:

 approaching completion on this.  bug fix needed to initial bitfrost
 patches -- local nesting of inhibit requests within the calling process
 weren't handled correctly.  changes pushed, just need a new bitfrost
 package.

 changes to Distance still need to be reviewed and propagated.
