 Yes, mplayer has been my testing tool of choice all along.

 Note that the frame rate currently gets reset between mplayer runs.
 That's not properly v4l2 standard, I'm not sure why it's happening.  So
 you need to run sfrate after mplayer starts.  There doesn't seem to be an
 mplayer option to set the rate directly (though the mplayer man page,
 being slightly longer than War and Peace, could easily hide such a thing).

 I'll look into why the rate gets reset between runs.

 Slowing the rate too much also can lead to corrupted frames, something
 that I *think* results from confusion between the video capture and DMA
 engines.  It should be possible to eliminate that, but I've not yet
 succeeded.
