 I don't have the requested full trace log yet but on a 2nd machine I've
 discovered that a lack of battery at start-up causes problems. powerd
 won't start up if there is not a battery in the system.  That may have
 been what happened in the earlier crash.

 Message is:

 line 148: pwr_DS_SERNUM: unbound variable

 multiple times... Guess until upstart decides its respawning too fast.

 BTW it would be handy to have timestamps in the output of powerd.trace
 log.  Took me a bit to realize that when I tried to restart by hand it was
 appending a new line of the above message rather than a whole new log
 file.
