 Good point.  #10052 opened for the feature requests.

 The primary issues with this ticket #9853 are the regressions from XO-1 to
 XO-1.5:
  * the horizontal flip default differs,
  * the noise is higher on a low light scene.

 My reason for asking for the user-space controls was so that I could
 evaluate alternate default gain values, if such a concept was valid.  The
 control programs (e.g. sbright.c) cause the active stream in Record to
 stop in the os201 kernel (built before the most recent patches above), so
 I guess there is some technique to using them.
