 These are the ANSI or Digital VT100 terminal style escape sequences for
 the keys.  It suggests the tty is in a raw mode.

 You can get the same output on an xterm by typing Control/V just prior to
 pressing a function key.

 I couldn't find where in the kernel these are generated, in a quick
 search.
