 John Maloney from Scratch reports:

 I've been testing the Scratch sensor board with the new XO Scratch. It
 works fine on my 1.0 machine, but it did not initially work on the 1.5
 machine; Scratch could not open the USB serial port.

 I added a file named "55-scratch.rules" to /etc/udev/rules.d containing
 this line:

 KERNEL=="ttyUSB*", MODE="0666"

 and rebooted, and the sensor board worked. So it appears that the above
 solved the problem, but it might not be the best solution, and it would be
 ugly to have users adding files to /etc/udev/rules.d.

 Bert, this came up in an earlier build and someone fixed the default rules
 to allow Scratch to get access to "ttyUSB". But it looks like there has
 been a complete rework of /etc/udev, and the fix for Scratch may have
 gotten lost. Could you forward my email to the right person at OLPC or
 Sugar to check on this? Thanks!
