 turns out that because of the way the psmouse driver allows the selection
 of probe protocols, we can't easily build the synaptics driver into the
 kernel without resorting
 to unload/reload tricks as done in #9775.  so for now, i'm going to leave
 the synaptics driver out, and not force PS/2 protocol.  that lets the hgpk
 (alps) touchpads work normally.
