Comment:

 so, I ran 'olpc-update debian'
and during all of the update hints (irsync pristine, irsync dirty, rsync,
etc), it failed with the error 'rsync: link_stat "root/etc/alsa/." (in
build-debian) failed: No such file or directory (2)'

so, i looked in the source of the bitfrost update stuff, and in the
irsync.py library file there's a hack for preserving something about
"var", "etc/alsa", and "etc/avahi", or something, but my guess is that the
debian distribution for olpc-update doesn't have the etc/alsa source file
 remotely.

so, anyway, i fixed it by wrapping those so-called "hack" rsync calls with
try/except blocks, but olpc-update is broken for the debian release.

i'm currently using olpc build 802 (stream 8.2.1; variant devel_jffs2)
