 I'm using a B4 XO-1 with the latest firmware, e41, and OS8, the latest
build from F11 on XO-1, installed.

 When I issue
       yum update
in the console, it lists a lot of packages needing upgrade (approx 30 to
update, approx 50MB to download). Soon after I confirm the changes listed,
it throws an exception about being unable to allocate resources (output
 attached).

Updating packages one at a time, like:
        yum update <package name>
works ok, so I guess the hardware resources are too limited for the whole
batch of updates. Yum should take them in small groups.
