Comment:
I can confirm this in a similar, but not identical scenario.
I have a B4 XO-1 loaded with OS8, the latest build from the F11 on XO-1
project.
I've set up an ad-hoc network from my Ubuntu laptop with NetworkManager.
It's got no encryption and is set for Internet Connection Sharing.
When I connect to it with the XO (from within Sugar - Neighbourhood), it
succeds but ifconfig reveals that it get configured with ip 10.42.43.1
(which is the same address as my Ubuntu box - duplicate), no default
gateway -> no internet. If I issue:
dhclient eth0
it then gets the correct ip and is able to connect to the internet and
all.
This does not happen if I connect using NetworkManager within GNOME. Also,
I can connect correctly to Access Points from Neighbourhood (it gets the
correct settings assigned), it seems to be an issue just with ad-hoc
networks.
Fix:
Call dhclient after each connection to an ad-hoc network.
Why are ad-hoc networks important?
There are no access points nearby. My router doesn't have wireless. An ad-
hoc network with Internet Sharing is the only option to connect my XO to
the internet at home. I suppose I'm not the only one in this situation.
